ASG BARRA 1866 - The Reimagined American Classic

Updated: May 27

This iconic American rifle not only shone brightly during the frontier era of the American West but also played a crucial role in major historical events such as the American Civil War and the Russo-Turkish War. These historical milestones cemented the Winchester Model 1866 as a legendary weapon.

What BARRA brings to the table is none other than the most iconic version of them all—the brass-framed Yellow Boy. This lever-action repeater didn’t just look good; it packed serious firepower for its time, with fast and reliable cycling that made it a must-have during westward expansion and in clashes with Native American tribes. The Ottoman Empire even fielded tons of these during the 1877–78 Russo-Turkish War, using its rapid-fire capabilities to great effect against the Russians.

The Yellow Boy took the Henry rifle’s design and made it way more practical: it added a side-loading gate, and a sealed round mag integrated with the stock, making it a battlefield beast. No surprise that both sides in the Franco-Prussian War were grabbing 1866s and .44 Henry ammo like hotcakes.

ASG BARRA 1866 CO2 6mm Rifle

ASG's BARRA 1866 is officially licensed by BARRA and faithfully reproduces the original design in both appearance and operation, even down to the unique magazine structure. This Airgun uses a dual CO2 power system that provides stable and consistent energy output, ensuring excellent performance across a range of temperatures. In addition to the 4.5mm steel BB (.177) version, a 6mm BB variant is also available to satisfy enthusiasts of classic American style.

The ASG BARRA 1866 is designed to be a 100% accurate replica of the BARRA brass-frame version.

Grip safety

After cocking the lever-action, the user must grip the handle fully

and depress the grip safety nub to disengage the safety and fire.

Magazine for shells

The replica shells can be loaded into the magazine with a capacity of 10 rounds. Operating the lever-action allows for smooth and satisfying shell ejection. The joy of firing is matched only by the thrill of watching the shell casings hit the ground.

Features include a metal octagonal barrel, iron sights, side-loading gate on the receiver, a metal buttplate engraved with “BARRA” and “1866,” and a neatly integrated 1913 rail—all of which showcase the attention to detail in the BARRA 1866.

Safety

The hammer-positioned manual safety is a thoughtful ASG addition, enhancing overall safety alongside the grip safety.

Maintenance and disassembly are straightforward. By unscrewing and removing the pins, users can access the internal mechanism of the ASG BARRA 1866.

In our test environment (around 25°C), we got at least 75 rounds of full BB-loaded shells ejected cleanly with stable velocity hovering around 125 m/s.

the ejector hook or feeding

Now sure—some parts like the ejector hook or feeding contacts might wear over time. It’s mechanical, after all. But let’s be real: where else are you gonna find a faithful Yellow Boy replica with this kind of classic octagonal barrel, rock-solid gas consistency, and buttery-smooth lever action? Shell ejection, fast cycling, old-America style—this thing’s an absolute unit. If your gun rack doesn’t have an ASG BARRA 1866, it’s seriously missing something.

All ASG parts are available for order. The Asia-first launch includes both black and weathered shell versions, so you can match your style. If you haven’t tried it yet, now’s the time to treat yourself to some lever-action heaven with the BARRA 1866.
